Anonymous struck once again!

Anonymous struck once again! As a response to the suicide of an activist due to the SOPA legislation, which favored total government monitoring over the Internet (a topic which mentioned allegations of blackmail), the crackers have offered a response right in the middle of America. Several governmental websites have been invaded with classical video games which can become accessible to anyone by using the Konami code.

The first known victim is the website of the American Sentence Commission, but the reports and the declarations issued by the group claim that other official web pages belonging to the American government have also been illegally modified. The games that have been implanted in a codified form in these websites can be accessed by typing the Konami code, a well known formula from the world of video games which presumes the sequential pressing of the cursor keys in the following order: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, and followed by B and A and finally Enter. This code is extremely known in the world of gamers, hackers and crackers, as it is present in a large number of video games.

Those who visit the official pages of the American government will get to enjoy – thanks to Anonymous – several arcade retro games, platforms or puzzles, whilst they search for the necessary information for which they accessed the site in the first place.

The suicide of Aaron Schwartz, a programmer and an activist due to the legislation seeking to censor the Internet took place on January 14th 2013.
