Micron Technology will bring on the market the new generation of hard drives – capable of more than 1 terabyte; they have a pretty steep price for regular users, but fair for the innovative technology used in their creation. The product will cost less than $ 600, the manufacturers say, and it will be called M 500. This announcement comes after a long wait for Internet users, who longed for a solid state drive with a capacity of 240 GB.
M 500 is a solid state drive that wants to blow away the competition, being able to perform more than 80,000 operations per second thanks to that SATA controller that reaches speeds of 6 GB per second. In addition, the sequential writing speed of the hard drive reaches 400 MB per second and the reading speed increases up to 500 MB per second.
That is not all, Micron Technology saying that this type of hard drive will be available not only in the 1TB format, but also in 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB versions. M 500 will have a 2.5-inch length and will have two smaller versions: M.2 and mSATA, which will come on the market in the second half of the year.
